Original Moxie Oasis Moisture Gel Reveiw

23 Feb

Hey Ya’ll!

Okay, I had been waiting to take my mini twists down to use this product and boy was it killing me. I’ve been wanting to try this product since I seen YT’s Chary Jay’s reveiw and style on this gel. I used the Just gel back in October I believe it was and had a good experience so I was really looking forward to using the Oasis moisture gel. After wearing my hair out two weekends in a row for my B’day it was time to get back on my protective styling. I decided to do a flat twist updo.

Description– Has your hair lost it’s groove? Get it back with this miracle treatment that restores life to damaged strands. The initials are “OMG” for a reason. Sodium Lactate, a powerful, naturally occurring humentant, attracts moisture and binds it to the hair, creating a dramatic improvement in softness and body after just one use. Who needs to live in a desert when you can have an Oasis at your fingertips?

Ingredients– Aqua (Water), Vegetable Glycerin***, Aloe barbadensis Leaf Preserved With Potassium Sorbate*** & Citric Acid***, Sodium Lactate, Polyquaternium-10, Tocopherol*** (Vitamin E), Hydrolyzed Silk***, Phenoxyethanol (and) Caprylyl Glycol (and) Sorbic Acid , Panthenol, Simmondsia chinensis (Jojoba) Oil, Essential Oils of Santalum album (Sandalwood), Citrus aurantium amara (Neroli), Coriandrum sativum L. (Coriander), & Citrus aurantifolia (Lime).

Instructions– Rake through wet hair and distribute evenly. Use a small amount for fine, thin hair and a generous amount for thick hair. Do not rinse out. Follow with your usual styling treatment.

My Experience–  I started my style on air dried wash and conditioned hair, I later dampened my hair with just water & aloe vera juice as I styled it to make it easier to manipulate. The Oasis moisture gel has a similar consistency to the Just gel, without the stickiness because the Oasis gel isn’t a flexseed based gel, I honestly don’t understand what gives this gel it’s hold but something does!  The color and scent of the gels differ as well the Oasis gel is clear and the Just gel is a yellow/brown color. The Oasis gel has a clean herbal scent and the Just gel has a minty herbal scent. The Oasis gel smooths on the hair nicely and defines curls. My hair had a nice shine and held quite well. My hair didn’t dry out or feel crunchy, well except for a couple of the twists I retwisted but that was my fault because I applied more gel as I retwisted. I really enjoyed this gel, it’s a really good gel everything I look for in a gel hold, shine and no crunch. You don’t need to use alot of product I still have a little more than half of my 1oz sample.

Final Say–  Overall I enjoyed the Oasis gel along with the other two products I was sent to try. The Oasis gel  has a good hold and gave great definition my hair didn’t feel dry or crunchy when I unraveled my twists. My hair had a nice shine too. Oasis gel is the perfect gel for those who like a gel with a firm  lasting hold without having dry and crunchy and sometimes flacky hair. Now I did find that the twists I used the extra gel on had a slight crunch and a little flaking, but as I said before that’s my fault because I added the extra gel. So be careful not to over apply.

Ms. Racheal really put some time and research into these products, the ingredients are very nourishing  and my hair responds well to them. I will be trying more of Original Moxie’s products. I think Original has become my luxury staple line, whenever they have an awesome sale I will definitely be purchasing full sizes of several of the products I have already tried. I LOVE this line despite the prices.

Price–  $5 -1 oz, $12 -4oz, $22-8oz

Basic tools for Natural Hair

29 Nov

I sooo want this comb!

Going natural and starting a regimen along with trying to find products and tools can be overwhelming. The one thing you should remember is to keep it simple especially in the beginning. It’s so easy to become a product junkie and start buying into every product or tool you see on YouTube and the blogs. Another thing to remember is that what works for someone else may not work for you even if you’re related or have a similar hair type, so always do lots of research by watching and reading reviews on products before you go out and purchase products and tools. You should also keep in mind that you don’t need to spend lots of money on products either a lot of products many naturals use can be found in your kitchen cabinets or in your local drugstores, grocery stores, or health food stores.  Anywho, I wanted to share the basic tools I’ve used through out my journey so far and maybe it can help someone looking to start their own regimen.

1. Sulfate free shampoo- Sulfate free shampoos cleanses your hair without all the harsh cleansers that are found in your regular shampoos, which strips your hair of everything even it’s natural oils causing your hair to feel dry and sometimes become matted.

2. Conditioners-Conditioners have so many purposes in a natural’s regimen they can be used for deep conditioning, rinse out conditioning treatments after washes, co-washes, leave-ins and some can even be used a stylers. (Make sure to read the labels or instructions to determine whether a conditioner should be used as a leave-in, rinse out, or deep conditioner but all three should have a place in your regimen)

3. Detangling tools- Detangle tools can vary from your fingers, to wide tooth combs, paddle brushes, The Tangle Teezer, Denmen brushes and many many others. These tools help you to detangle your hair and remove shed hairs & tangles, they’re also good for smoothing product through your hair for a more even distribution.

4. Oils- Oils are a MUST in every natural’s regimen. Oils help to seal in the moisture in your strands after applying water or a water based product to your strands. Oils are another mutli-purpose product, you can use your oils as a hot oil treatment,  a pre-poo treatment, to baggy your ends, oil rinses, sealing your ends, to help reduce frizz when unraveling twists or braids, adding to your conditioners for an extra lil kick or to add slip to a conditioner for detangling.

5. Spray bottle filled with water- Another must have for any natural, water is the best moisturizer for natural hair. You can use your spray bottle to re-wet your hair if it starts to dry while you’re styling or detangling.

6. Applicator bottles (optional)- Applicator bottles are great to have on hand to store your oils in. Because the bottle top has an applicator tip it’s easier to apply oil to your scalp and hair without having to pour it in your hands and have  it running all down your arms. I hate that! ;(

7. Hair pins, clips, headbands, and other accessories (optional)- Hair pins, bobby pins, headbands and other accessories are essential in a regimen. These simple accessories could be just what you need to change or spice up a hairstyle. No matter if you have a TWA or waist-length hair you can never have to many hair accessories.

8. A pair hair shears- This is another essential in your regimen, you should keep a good pair of shears on hand to keep your ends trimmed, dusted and to cut out SSKs or tangles.

9. Styling aids- Styling aids come in many different variations; creams, butters, pomades, gels, gel-creams, and many others and help hold your twist, braids, curls, and coils in place to create your styles.

10. Flexi rod or perm rods- Curling rods are great to have on hand to do curly styles, braid/twist ~n~ curl outs, adding curls to the ends of twists and braids, and they’re a transitioner’s bestfriend because they create a curl that helps blend the two different hair textures together (the new growth and relaxed ends).

11. Butterfly clips or clips- These help you to keep your hair in place and sectioned off as you apply product or style your   hair.

12. Last but definitely not least is a satin scarf, bonnet or pillowcase – You will need a least one of these things to protect your hair from those cotton sheets, pillows and pillowcases and blankets from sucking the moisture out your hair while you’re sleeping. No more waking up to broken hairs on your pillows and sheets! *TIP* You should buy at least two bonnets, pillowcases, and/or scarves to rotate between, the oils still soak through the fabrics some, so you’ll need to wash them often to prevent your face from breaking out. 🙂

Oh! and one more last thing, one of the most important things you’ll need along your journey is patience. It is so important to remain patient during your journey no matter how tough things get. Not everything someone does to their hair will work for you so you have to stick it out and try different things and techniques until you find the one that works best for you.

I hope this helps someone out there! 🙂

Thanx for stopping by and until next time

Have a happy HHJ  Peace & Blesses

The verdict is in: Oyin Handmade’s Grand Poo Bar & Honey Hemp Conditioner Product Review

28 Sep

I was looking through my book when I realized that I never gave my final thoughts on Oyin Handmade Grand Poo Bar & the  infamous Honey Hemp Conditioner sooo here it is.  I used the Grand Poo Bar and Homey Hemp Conditioner several times last month and I was very impressed with these products. I decided to put the two products to the real test by using them after doing an egg protein treatment.

Description: Oyin Grand Poo cleanses gently and thoroughly, without harsh detergents that can strip hair. It’s also packed with botancial butter to help maintain moisture.

Honey Hemp Conditioner is penetrating, detangling, seriously softening multipurpose conditioner, enriched with aloe vera gel, hemp oil, honey and just a touch of hydrolyzed silk protein (this is not your high protein rebuilder conditioner we use just enough  to make it silky) Honey Hemp had great detangling  slip and moisturizing power. It rinses out clean and makes a nice pre-shampoo deep conditioning treatment. *add oil or extra honey for superior DC power*  It can even be used as a creamy, nourishing  leave in.

Instructions: Grand Poo Bar says to saturate hair well and separate into sections. Work bar into lather between your hands or directly on your scalp and work mild lather through hair. Rinse thoroughly. For best storage keep bar dry between uses.

Honey Hemp Conditioner says to use after shampooing for a deep treatment  leave on for an hour with or  without a warm towel. Detangle  and rinse out.

Ingredients: GrandPoo Bar contains purified water, glycerin, sodium stearate and sodium oleate (mild foaming/cleansing agents derived from vegetable oils) soribitol, stearic acid, lauric acid, african black soap, coco butter, shea butter, cetyl alcohol, coconut oil, lavender, rosemary, citrus oils.

Honey Hemp Conditioner contains purified water, organic aloe vera gel, behentremonium methosulfate (emulsifier derived from colza oil) honey, virgin hemp oil, coconut oil, vegetable glycerin, hydrolized silk, citrus essences, frangance, optiphen (preservative) and LOVE. 🙂

My experience: After allowing my homemade egg white protein treatment sit in my hair for 20 mins, I rinsed the egg out with cold water then washed my hair with my Grand Poo Bar. I washed my hair in 5 sections and worked the lather through my hair and scalp and clipped it up out the way. After rinsing the shampoo out my hair it didn’t feel stripped and all the slimy egg had been washed out. My hair wasn’t matted or tangled either.

Next I applied the Honey Hemp conditioner mixed with a little of J.B.C.O and finger combed it through my hair my hair absorbs the conditioner immediately and it felt so soft and moisturized, again I didn’t need to apply a lot there’s still some left in my 2 oz sample bottle, I sealed with coconut oil and put on a plastic cap followed by my heating cap and sat for an hour. After removing the cap my hair was VERY soft and moisturized. I loved the way the conditioner had made my hair feel so much I decided to let in hair air dry without rinsing the conditioner out. The next morning my hair felt amazingly moisturized, soft and manageable. This stuff right here! Is the BOMB.COM!

Final Say: I REALLY enjoyed theses products my hair responded well to them also. Both products have very good ingredients and does exactly what it claimed it would do….FOR MY HAIR. They’re affordable and a little goes a long way and shipping did not take forever (I don’t even think it took a full week). The Honey Hemp Conditioner is by far the best deep conditioner I’ve ever used!

I will definitely order theses products again along with a few other things I would like to try. Black Friday is coming up so I’m quite sure they will be on sale but I will repurchase either way these products

Price: Grand Poo Bar $7

Honey Dew Conditioner $3.50- 2 oz, $12- 8.4 oz, $20- 16.9 oz, $34- 33oz

Product Review: Cantu Shea Butter Coconut Curling Cream

15 Sep

Cantu has created a line just for us naturals! I’ve used Cantu Shea Butter leave-in as a styler and was pretty pleased with the results. So when I saw, on Youtube *Of Course* I had to go out and buy it. And I’m glad I did this stuff is BOMB!

Description: Coconut curling cream will define, condition and add manageability to your curls, leaving them soft, shiny and deeply moisturized.

Directions: Smooth onto damp hair section by section from the root down the hair shaft. Do not rinse out. Can be used on dry hair to enhance curls.

Ingredients: Water, Canola oil, Glycerin, Cetearyl alcohol/Ceteareth-20, Fragrance, Cetearyl alcohol/Ceteth-20, Shea Butter, Glycol Strerate,Petrolatum, Aloe Vera Leaf Juice,Coconut oil, Jojoba seed oil, Soybean oil, Avocado oil, Sweet Almond oil, Mango seed butter, Olive fruit oil, Macadamia seed oil, Neem seed oil, Carrot seed oil, Argan kernal oil, Silk amino acids, Honeysuckle flower extract, Sea kelp extract, Sage leaf extract, Grape seed extract, Nettle extract, PEG-75, Polyquaternuim-10, Phenoxyethanol, Ethylhexylglycerin. NO MINERAL OIL, SULFATES, PARABENS, SILICONE, PHTHALATES, GLUTEN, PARAFFIN, PROPYLENE GLYCOL, PABA,OR DEA.

MY EXPERIENCE: I’ve been using Cantu’s coconut curling cream for the past month now and I absolutely love it! The smell is a pleasant coconut scent, not overwhelming like some products that contain artificial coconut fragrance and it lingers (for those who like to smell their products in their hair). The consistency is creamy, smooth, and thick. No need to apply a lot because goes a long way.

I’ve used this product to achieve many hairstyles in the past month and even used it on my Son’s curls and coils. Each time I use this product the results are nice. I’ve tried it on wet, damp and dry hair, and each time my hair felt moisturized and soft. It gives good definition and a nice hold. I used the L.O.C method when I apply I the product and each time I get boucey, shiny, and very defined hair. I always get between second and third day hair but I think once I master stretching my braid/twists outs I could get up to five or six day hair.

FINAL VERDICT: This is a HIT! THE BOMB.COM and was only 6 or 7 dollars at my local Walmart. It has good nurishing  ingredients even though I was shocked to see petrolatum as the ninth ingredient. It  that doesn’t leave my hair feeling greasy or weighted down and I haven’t experienced much buildup when used repeatedly in between washes. When I use this product using the L.O.C method the results are just AMAZING! You definitely get bang for your buck being that you get 12ozs of product for under $10 and a little goes a long way so you won’t go through it super fast. A major plus is I can use it in my Son’s hair, who also likes the smell. Cantu really did their thing with this product in my opinion and I will definitely be checking out the rest of their natural line. I think the curling cream has become a staple for me. I give this product a 5-star rating!

If you’re looking for a styler with good ingredients that’s inexpensive and available locally you should give this a try I think you just might like it! 🙂

WHERE TO FIND THESE PRODUCTS: Walmart, Target, Walgreens, & Family Dollar (I haven’t seen it at my local one yet)

Price: $6-8 for a 12oz jar
